The Job


Design Lead roles will typically involve a combination of creative, managerial, and strategic responsibilities. You will be responsible to play a crucial role in guiding and overseeing the design team, ensuring that design goals align with business objectives and user needs. Overall, a Design Lead plays a critical role in shaping the visual identity and user experience of a product or service, while also managing and inspiring a team of designers to achieve collective goals.


Key Responsibilities


Team Leadership

Provide leadership and direction to the design team.

Mentor and support team members, fostering a collaborative and creative work environment.

Conduct regular team meetings and design reviews.

Project Management

Oversee multiple design projects simultaneously.

Collaborate with other departments (such as product management, engineering, and marketing) to ensure cohesive project execution.

Develop project timelines and manage resources to meet deadlines.

Optimise resource allocation to maximise efficiency and productivity.


 


Strategic Planning

Work closely with senior management to align design strategies with overall business goals.

Contribute to the development of the design vision and strategy for the organisation.

Design Direction

Set design standards and guidelines for the team.

Ensure consistency and alignment with the brand throughout all design projects.

Review and provide feedback on design concepts and deliverables.

User-Centric Design

Advocate for user-centric design principles.

Conduct or oversee user research and usability testing to inform design decisions.

Ensure that the end-user experience is a primary consideration in all design work.

Collaboration

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, developers, marketers, and other stakeholders.

Bridge the gap between design and other departments to ensure a unified approach to product development.

Skill Development

Identify skill gaps within the team and facilitate training or professional development opportunities.

Stay updated on industry trends and encourage continuous learning among team members.

Quality Assurance

Review and approve final designs before implementation.

Ensure that design deliverables meet high standards of quality and align with project objectives.

Communication

Effectively communicate design strategies, rationales, and solutions to the team and stakeholders.

Present design concepts and progress updates to leadership and other relevant parties.


 

About You

Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.

Previous experience in a leadership or managerial role within a design team.

Proficiency in design tools and software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, Figma, or other relevant applications.

Strong understanding of design principles, typography, colour theory, and layout.

Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a design team.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey design concepts, strategies, and decisions to team members and stakeholders.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop project timelines, manage resources, and meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make informed design decisions based on data and user feedback.

You have worked within an ecommerce environment.
